The Hebrew Word

Tazria [תַזְרִיעַ] is a conjugation of a primitive Hebrew root [זָרַע - tzara - Strong's #2232], which means "to sow." Tzara is used 77 times in 73 verses in the Tanakh.

Tzara is the root of another Hebrew word, tzaroa, which means arm or strength [Strong's #2220].

First use in Scripture

The first time tzarah is used in Scripture is in Genesis 1.

Then G-d said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding [bearing] seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them"; and it was so. (Genesis 1:11)

Last use in Scripture

The last time tzarah is used in Scripture is in Zechariah 10.

"When I scatter [as in sowing] them among the peoples, They will remember Me in far countries, And they with their children will live and come back. (Zechariah 10:9)
