Other Observations
Sodom and Gomorrah
This parashah is often noted for the story of the destruction of S'dom and Amorah [Sodom and Gomorrah]. It is often taught that the sin of these cities that merited their destruction was the sexual immorality and/or homosexuality that was practiced there. While the city was indeed filled with such sins, it was not because of these sins that it was destroyed. Scripture tells us their sin was not helping the poor and needy (Ezekiel 16:49).
Commandments In the Parashah
None of the traditional 613 commandments is found in this parashah.
