1558- First printed edition of the Zohar, the fundamental work of the Kabalah (Jewish esoteric and mystical teachings), authored by the Talmudic sage, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, was published. This lead to an explosion of interest in the study of Kabalah.

1883- Anti-Jewish riots erupted in Zola-Egerszeg, Hungary.
