1099- When the Crusaders under Godfrey de Bouillon captured Jerusalem during the First Crusade, many Jews of the city were herded into a synagogue. The crusaders then set it aflame, burning alive all the Jewish men, women, and children. 20,000 to 30,000 Jews in Jerusalem were massacred or sold as slaves. For the next 88 years of Crusader control of Jerusalem, Jews were barred from the city.
