7 Nisan

Circa 1310 BCE- A special offering was brought including a series of gifts by the Tribe of Efrayim for the inauguration of the Tabernacle.

c 1272 BCE- The Jewish nation mourned the passing of Moses for thirty days. During this time Joshua, the new leader of the Jewish nation, sent scouts to spy on the land of Canaan. On this date (7 Nisan), the first day after the mourning period came to an end, Joshua instructed the Jews to stock up on provisions and prepare themselves to cross the Jordan river to begin the conquest of the Promised Land. This day was the first time Joshua addressed the nation, and they unconditionally accepted him as their new leader. (see Joshua chapter 1)

The actual crossing occurred on the 10th of Nisan.

c 428 BCE- Ezekiel received G-d's prophecy concerning the pending conquest of Egypt by Nebuchadnezzar.

1190- 150 Jews were massacred in York, England. Even though the Jews were under special protection from Richard I, because of their wealth that could help fund the Crusades, the mob attacked 150 Jews hiding in the castle at York (Clifford's Castle). Most committed suicide rather than be murdered, but the rest, believing promises that they would be spared if they came out, left the castle and were promptly massacred when they refused to submit to baptism.

HaRav Eliyahu Hakadosh of York, Rabbeinu Yom Tov bar Yitzchak of Jouny, and several other English Talmudic scholars were among the martyrs.  Due to this brutal massacre, the Jews accepted upon themselves a ban/oath never to sleep in the city of York overnight which is still in practice.

1925- Hebrew University opened in Jerusalem.
